Food Photography: The Sweet taste of Indian Tandori BBQ

Who are Doori:

The outdoor cooker which brings home the world of cooking on a skewer. Who firmly believe that outdoor cooking should be fun, fast and easy. A social experience to be shared with friends and family, not standing over a hot grill flipping food and praying you don’t burn it!

How it began:

Ecom Photography was given the task by Doori, the UK’s No1 Indian Tandori BBQ Producer to create a bank of images for their new product launch. Firstly we produced stunning white background images to truly reflect the high quality finish and UK weather product design. Following the White Background images it was now time for us to produce creative images, it was the end of winter and the coming of spring and as we all know the UK isnt the most reliable weather even in summer.

Required Shots:

The Photography brief created by the client was clear and precise; To create a range of high quality images for the launch which will be used for marketing material across Social Media and Website. The client has a limited budget for the launch so we need to work fast and a high quality and make winter look summer. Photos to be taken are of the Doori BBQ unit in several locations around the garden with and without food, showing the product being used and the finished cooked food for a website banner.

Shoot Day:

We arrived at our shoot location on a dark wet day in Manchester knowing the launch deadline was glooming with no other option but to battle on through the wind and rain. We weren’t going to settle for a wet and windy day so we came prepared with our studio lighting which means we could create our tropical sun even in Manchester. Not only did we light the garden as if it was a summers day but we also had the challenge of lighting a highly reflective surface of the BBQ to have a nice glow to the product.

The Edits:

We were blessed with such amazing cooking skills from the head cook that the food didn’t require much editing. in fact the beauty of lifestyle images is there is a sense of rawness and life to them. Edit the images too much they will just become your average fast food chain photo that everyone glances at knowing it isn’t real. We need to grasp the audience attention so we boost the areas of focus to give the mouth watering sensation.
